Australasian Post Excerpt entitled Teenagers
14 March 1999
G’day,
Ah, the teenage years. Millions of young people searching for their identity. Interesting that the first place they look is in the refrigerator. My fifteen year old cousin is always saying, “I have a mind of my own.” When I was fifteen, I didn’t even have a toothbrush of my own. I can remember when teenage girls were called “dream boats”. Now they look more like coal barges. They call the dress style, “the grunge look”. My neighbour said to me, “I think my teenage kid has a drug problem”. I said, “Drugs, as in Heroin?” He said, “No, drug as in ‘by the cat.’” I told her to say “No” to drugs. She said, “Good idea! It will drive the prices down. She dresses down man. She looks like the bottom of a lift well. And there are only two ways to cope with teenage kids. Self control now, or birth control then. You can’t win. My sixteen year old cousin keeps saying he wants to find himself. I wish he’d get lost first. And now there is a teenage doll in the stores. You wind it up and it resents you for it.
